Tania Burchell

Welcome to the Volunteer Portal for the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park! My name is Tania Burchell, and I am honored to serve as the Park’s volunteer coordinator.

Our volunteer program is one of the more successful programs in the state park system. This Park is special in many ways: we care for three freshwater springs, dozens of native and endangered animal species, and acres of beautiful native plants. It is no wonder that every month, our volunteers share over 5,000 hours of their time with us!

If you are interested in becoming one of my talented volunteers, then we have varied but established volunteer position categories from which you can choose. Visitor services, transportation, maintenance, children’s education and animal care are where the majority of my 300+ volunteers serve our park -- but more categories are available. So, I’m sure that somewhere in our park family you will find something of interest to you.

Hours volunteered at the Park count towards work experience that is recognized by the Florida Park Service on job applications, and also count towards high school community service requirements.

We also host an internship program at the Park where qualified students can work for the Park and even do a scientific research project, if approved. This is a competitive placement, but the experience is unique and especially beneficial to students of animal welfare, biology and ecology.

If you do want to find out more about our volunteer program or internship opportunities, please contact me at Tania Burchell.
